Farm Input Product Availability
Currently there are a number of product shortages. For cropping products such as Trifluralin, Glyphosate and other knockdown products, widespread rain along eastern Australia has led to very high demand at a time when inventories have been run right down. This, in conjunction with logistical supply chain challenges associated with the Coronavirus Pandemic, has created some shortages.
In the medium term, the effect of the Coronavirus Pandemic on the supply chain of agricultural products is unknown. Given Australia seems to be fairing relatively well compared to other countries, future disruptions may not be as significant as originally forecast.
However, planning ahead would seem prudent under the current circumstances.
Basic products which are used annually and store well, could be ordered well in advance. From a cropping perspective, such products would include Status, Verdict, Lontrel, Triazine products, MCPA, Ally & Tigrex. Where these are used on a regular basis, the cost of holding is quite low. From a livestock perspective, vaccines and lamb marking supplies, as well as supplies required for crutching and shearing, could all be worth having on hand.
Whilst no resellers want to see panic buying, planning ahead and communicating requirements to suppliers can only be beneficial.
