Wool Market Update (June 2015)
The following graph shows the AWEX Eastern Market indicator (EMI) in cents per kilogram clean, from August 2009 to date.
Since April 2015, prices have increased rapidly. Current prices are only 80c/kg behind the peak of 1,436 c/kg clean, achieved during June 2011.
History would suggest that current prices are unsustainable and due for a correction. However, they are a welcome bonus for those selling wool into the current market.
Currently the AWEX EMI is at 1,356 c/kg clean. This should result in net average returns to many clients with Merino clips, of around $8.00/kg greasy, resulting in returns of $48/head net for sheep cutting 6.0 kg/head greasy.
