Following is a selection of recently released crop varieties which are worthy of consideration next year.

WHEAT

Beckom

  • Released for 2016

  • Marketed by AGT

  • AH in southern NSW

  • $3.25/t EPR, with ability to share seed between growers

  • Similar maturity to Suntop, slightly quicker than Gregory. Flexible maturity

  • Stripe Rust resistance MR-MS, so may require rust management

  • Yellow Leaf Spot resistance MS-S

  • Limited testing in NSW

Longreach Flanker

  • Released for 2016

  • Marketed by Pacific Seeds

  • APH in southern NSW

  • $4.00/t EPR, no grower to grower trading allowed

  • Bred from Gregory, with similar maturity and plant type. Flexible maturity

  • Stripe Rust resistance R-MR

  • Yellow Leaf Spot resistance MS-S

  • Claimed yield improvement over Gregory, claimed grain size benefits compared to Suntop

Scepter

  • Released for 2016

  • Marketed by AGT

  • AH in southern NSW

  • $3.25/t EPR, with ability to share seed between growers

  • Maturity likely to be between Suntop and Spitfire

  • Stripe Rust resistance MS-S, so may require rust management

  • Yellow Leaf Spot resistance MR-MS, which may suit wheat-on-wheat situations

  • Bred from Mace, upright plant type with good harvest index. Limited testing in NSW

Hatchet CL Plus

  • Released for 2016

  • Marketed by AGT

  • AH in southern NSW

  • $4.05/t EPR (includes Clearfield licence), no grower to grower trading allowed

  • Very fast maturing, similar to Axe

  • Stripe Rust resistance MR

  • Yellow Leaf Spot resistance S

  • Tolerant to Intervix herbicide, which may provide an option if Group B chemical residues are an issue

  • Very susceptible to pre-harvest sprouting, similar to Lincoln and Axe

CANOLA

ATR Mako

  • Marketed by Nuseed

  • $5.00/t EPR, with ability to share seed between growers

  • OP Triazine Tolerant

  • Mid maturity alternative to ATR Gem

  • Claimed Blackleg rating MR

IH51RR

  • Marketed by Bayer

  • Hybrid Roundup Ready

  • Mid maturity similar to ATR Gem

  • Claimed Blackleg rating MR

  • Contains shatter resistance trait called PodGuard for delayed windrowing or direct harvesting

  • Delivery points and price reductions for GM canola need to be considered.

Monola 416TT

  • Marketed by Nuseed

  • OP Triazine Tolerant

  • Mid maturity alternative to ATR Gem

  • Claimed Blackleg rating MR

  • $95/t premium paid, but delivery points need to be considered

BARLEY

IGB1334T (Currently unnamed)

  • Released for 2016

  • Marketed by Intergrain

  • Undergoing malt accreditation for 2016

  • EPR $4.25, with no grower to grower trading

  • Medium to quick maturing variety, similar to La Trobe and Hindmarsh

  • Spot Form Net Blotch S-VS

  • Net Form Net Blotch MR

  • Scald MS

  • Tolerant of Clearfield herbicides

LUPINS

PBA Jurien

  • Marketed by Seednet

  • Narrow leaf lupin

  • EPR $2.75, with no grower to grower trading permitted

  • Maturity similar to Mandelup

  • Improved tolerance to Metribuzin compared to Mandelup and PBA Barlock

  • Claimed improvement in yield potential compared to PBA Barlock and Mandelup
