The following graph shows the AWEX Eastern Market indicator (EMI) in cents per kilogram clean, from August 2009 to date.

Whilst there has been some volatility over the last two years, the AWEX EMI has largely traded within a range of approximately 100 cents between 1,000 and 1,100 c/kg clean.

At these price levels, wool has been a profitable enterprise for those growers producing above average wool cuts per hectare.

Currently the AWEX EMI is at 1,025 c/kg clean.  This should result in net average returns to many clients with Merino clips, of around $6.50/kg greasy, resulting in returns of $39/head net for sheep cutting 6.0 kg/head greasy.
